My sister and I had just grown up, and she was finally at the point in her life where she was going to start doing all the things she’d dreamed about—traveling, seeing Europe, experiencing more of the world. She never got the chance.

For a long time, I told myself I would do those things for her. I did make it to Europe, I left my hometown, and I’ve been fortunate to have a life filled with love and opportunity.
