Legend of the Jade Sorcerer – Short Film Made with AI tools for GEN:48 and Runway

Made during and for the Gen:48 AI short film competition hosted by Runway

We chose to make a short in the style of an English dubbed 70s martial arts film. We love watching old movies like The Five Deadly Venoms and The 36th Chambers of Shaolin. This is our love letter to those films.

We used the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (public domain of course), as inspiration. We had a little more that we wanted to do like have a Vengeful Spirit as The Wicked Witch character send out hopping vampires (Jiangshi), but we ran out of time and had to ditch the idea and cut right to the confrontation with the Wizard/Sorcerer.

All footage was generated in Runway and post-processed in After Effects.

We tried to match that Chicago style of accent you would hear in the old kung fu dubs. Often times, the antagonist sounded like they were from a 40s era Chicago gang. We hope you enjoyed this!
