This is a song I wrote a while back and made a few videos with it. The original was written a bit more in story form and the lyric format wasn’t ever quite right. Marshall Altman and I reworked the lyrics a bit and updated the song and it works really well now. The idea behind this song is about people who just let themselves be a little strange without worrying how the World sees them. Without fear of judgement.
I have been wanting to take the time to try a story-driven video. This song really worked for the idea. I have been practicing with Seedance a bit and used it for this one. The hard part is trying to direct the things that happen in the scene. I had fun making this one 🙂
“The Art Of Being Strange”
[[Verse 1 ]
Some people walk straight
Fit in
Lie well
Must win
But not you my friend
not you my friend.
You move like a bold idea,
Reckless without the fear
Of condemnation, judgement, or contempt
(Pre-chorus)
You show up late,
You leave too soon,
And dance alone
In a crowded room
[Chorus sung softly]
You don’t bend,
You don’t break,
You don’t think about mistakes
And the stories People tell
They can all just go to hell
Cuz they don’t see the world the same
But don’t bother to explain my friend
I hope you never change
It’s the art of being strange
The art of being strange
You love with no rules,
Heart beat
No doubts,
Completely true my friend
Completely you my friend
Your life’s an unfolding play,
Where you have the final say
It’s all beautiful and wreckless and wild
(Pre-chorus)
You show up late,
You leave too soon,
And dance alone
In a crowded room
[Chorus]
You don’t bend,
You don’t break,
You don’t think about mistakes
And the stories People tell
They can all just go to hell
Cuz they don’t see the world the same
But don’t bother to explain my friend
I hope you never change
It’s the art of being strange
Some people make sense.
Some people don’t.
But damn it,
The ones who don’t
Are the only ones worth remembering.
